2026 Year Antoine Chevrier

During the year 2026, the Prado spiritual family proposes to celebrate the Bicentenary of the birth of Father Chevrier. To commemorate his message and his work, a number of events will be organised in conjunction with the liturgical calendar. Below is an overview of the key dates in 2026.

Note: To date, these are essentially proposals from Lyon, but they could inspire other events in the region to add to the calendar.

 

JANUARY 2026

4 January 2026: Feast of the Epiphany.

Opening of the jubilee year of Blessed Antoine Chevrier, Saint-Jean Cathedral, Lyon, 10am: Eucharist presided over by Mgr Olivier de Germay (to be confirmed)

 

FEBRUARY 2026

2 February 2026 : Participation in the day for consecrated life.

For the diocese of Lyon, a one-day event chaired by Mgr Patrick Le Gal will be held at the Domaine St Joseph.

Presentation on Father Chevrier by Sister Marie-Jo Bellere with David Vélon (consecrated lay person).

 

6 and 7 February 2026 :  Meeting of solidarity players from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region "To live in fraternity with the poorest by learning about the spiritual needs of each person".

APRIL 2026

16 April Anniversary of Antoine Chevrier's birth.

Proposal for a novena and prayer vigil in the Prado chapel.

 

18-19 April 2026: Life'vangile weekend

 

Saturday 19 April 2026: Art exhibition

Opening at 6pm in the church of Saint-François de Sales in Lyon, 2th arrondissement

Blessing of works of art by Philippe Duret

 

During April

Action (day to be specified) to mark The historical link between Father Chevrier and the Church of the Immaculate Conception in the parish of Moulin à Vent.

For the record :  On Easter Day, 21 April 1867, Abbé Robin, archpriest of Villeurbanne, presided over the installation of Father Chevrier as parish priest.

 

18-19 April 2026: Gospel Weekend

 

MAY 2026

From 25 May (dinner) to 28 May (lunch) 2026: Research session for members of the Prado spiritual family

Proposed by the Collectif d'animation des pradosiens en monde ouvrier To understand the societal and ecclesial context of proclaiming the Gospel to today's "poor, ignorant and sinners". To deepen our understanding and listen to the calls to renew our pradosian life in the service of the most vulnerable.

OCTOBER 2026

3 October: Feast of Father Chevrier

For the universal Church, Saturday 3 October is the anniversary of the death of Father Chevrier.

For the diocese of Lyon, Friday 2 October: Mass in the Prado chapel at 6.30pm.

 

Sunday 4 October: Anniversary of the Beatification

Celebration of the 40th anniversary of the beatification of Father Chevrier and the visit of Pope John Paul II to the Prado chapel on 7 October. 

Televised mass (to be confirmed)

 

Thursday 22 and Friday 23 October : Spirituality and holiness of the secular clergy. Around Père Chevrier (XVIIIe-XXe centuries)".

NOVEMBER 2026

15 November : World Poor Day (10th birthday)

A proposal will be drawn up for parishes in the Lyon diocese and will be available to any parish in France that requests it.

 

DECEMBER 2026

25 December : Mass of the night of 24/12 in the church of Saint-André in Lyon, the place of Father Chevrier's "conversion" (to be confirmed).
